Our Story

The name is Italian for friends. Everyone knows Pedro, Francis, and Taylor. Fewer people know the ravine in Manoguayabo, what Francis's earliest witnesses actually wrote down, or how a singer lost the recordings of her own voice. Amici Books goes back to the record and brings out what the first telling missed: the strange, funny, human detail that got sanded off. We name our sources, and we keep later memory labeled as memory. We don't invent intimacy. We do keep the paperwork.

On This Rock

Pedro Martínez, Boston and a Pitching Peak for the Ages

By Allan S. Martin · Amici Books

In 1999 and 2000, a slight right-hander from Manoguayabo gave Fenway two summers with no real precedent in their era. The industry had first filed him as too small to start. This book goes back to where that started: a ravine, a rock, and a system that measured the wrong thing.

The Two Columns
